The Materials Science and Engineering department maintains a graduate degree program that offers M.M.S.E. and Ph.D. degrees.
At the master's level, the academic program consists of a core series of required courses covering those aspects of materials science considered essential to a fundamental understanding of materials; these courses cover physical and mechanical properties, materials characterization, thermodynamics, and kinetics as well as applied mathematics.
The requirements for the Ph.D. degree include the aforementioned required courses plus more specialized materials courses, as well as additional mathematics and materials physics courses.
